The Mental Mat Room Weekly Challenge #1

With the exception of the military and active duty folks, intelligence analysts don’t necessarily have a physical requirement to our jobs.  There’s no need for defensive tactics training or a regularly scheduled physical and PT test that much of law enforcement has to go thru.  However, there is one particular area we need to keep in shape and that’s our mind, more specifically our critical thinking skills.  One way to accomplish this is with brain teasers, puzzles, quizzes, and the like.  We tend to be thinkers by nature and most analysts I know, including myself, have a game-a-day addiction to things like Words With Friends, Sudoku, and Cryptoquotes.   So we thought it made sense to have a weekly feature on the IntelCloud that’s sort of a Mental Mat Room to exercise our minds and kind of refresh our outlook with the purpose of generating new ideas and maybe gain some new insight on something we might be struggling with.  Sitting at a computer all day can lead to some very stale ideas and put you in a rut when it comes to critical thinking; not productive, not stimulating, and certainly not conducive to effective analysis.    When this happens, it’s best to take a break and do something to get your mind moving again and each Wednesday we’ll have a new exercise to get you going.  Answers will follow on Thursday.

To kick it off…

A man is trapped in a room.  The room has only two possible exits: two doors.  Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass.  The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters.  Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon.  How does the man escape?

Most puzzles provided by the Braingle iPhone app, but NO cheating.
